L2 Consulting Services, Inc. Receives Contract to Certify Cobham AVIATOR SATCOM System on Hawaiian Airlines 767-300 Series Aircraft for FANS
Austin, Texas – October 13th, 2014 – L2 Consulting Services, Inc. (L2) is pleased to announce that the company has received a contract from Cobham SATCOM to develop the Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for the installation of the AVIATOR SATCOM Swiftbroadband (SBB) Satellite Communications System on Hawaiian Airlines 767-300 series aircraft using ACARS Ground Gateways (AGGWs) to carry FANS/ACARS safety messages. L2 is developing the integration engineering, producing installation kits, and providing certification and project management for the program. Additionally, L2 will be providing Cobham SATCOM with remote installation services. The design phase of the program has already commenced, with the prototype installation and certification scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2015.
L2 President, Mark Lebovitz said, “This FANS 1 Controller Pilot Data Link Communication and Automatic Dependent Surveillance Contract to implement over SwiftBroadband Safety Services certification project is intended to support the FAA’s initiative to evaluate communication technologies that are expected to be viable in meeting the needs of the aviation community.” He added, “We are delighted that Cobham SATCOM has entrusted our company with such a significant program to support FANS Evaluation flight trials towards meeting ICAO GOLD RCP240 requirements for support of 30/30 NM operations.”
The Hawaiian Airlines B767s will be retrofitted with Cobham SATCOM’s current generation AVIATOR SwiftBroadband SATCOM hardware, which includes an IGA-5001 intermediate gain antenna. The system is capable of providing both voice and data communications with the addition of many enhanced features such as immediate aircraft tracking information and Ethernet ports for connecting devices like Aircraft Interface Devices (AIDs) and Electronic Flight Bags (EFBs) for the pilots to obtain real-time information, including graphical weather updates. The connectivity will facilitate dynamic routing to favorable winds and away from unfavorable weather.
