L2
Consulting Services, Inc. Amends Boeing 747 Wingspeed
XLLink STC for Terminal Wireless Operation
Austin, Texas– September
3rd, 2008
-
L2 Consulting Services,
Inc (L2) proudly announces that the Federal Aviation
Administration (FAA) has approved the company’s major
change to Supplemental Type Certificate ST10679SC for
the Wingspeed XLLink Flight Information System and
Triple Teledyne EFB. The STC now includes approved
options for cockpit integrated voice communication,
external GPS update for position reporting, and a
Terminal Wireless LAN Unit (TWLU), which automatically
provides wireless data communication between on-board
aircraft systems and in-range ground based access
points.
“More and more, Wingspeed
is pushing the boundaries of enabling cutting edge
technology to be utilized on air transport aircraft.
Without an integration partner like L2, this program
would not have been the success that it was.” said Peter
Ferguson, Wingspeed’s Program Manager.
The
Wingspeed XLLink Flight Information Architecture (XFIA)
is an airborne network platform that stays connected to
an airline’s ground network through a range of
sub-networks such as VHF, the Iridium Satellite Network,
and Wi-Fi.
The newly approved STC
configuration further pushes the envelope for making the
aircraft a moving node on the operator’s information
network, allowing for automatic connection and
downloading of specified flight data through the TWLU as
well as a user friendly, low impact dialing and
communication function through existing cockpit voice
communications architecture.
“With
the addition of an integrated cockpit voice
communications option and the Terminal Wireless LAN
Unit, this STC now provides operators a seamless
integration and operational solution for Satcom and
Datalink services.” Said L2’s Program Manager Husejin
Dervic.
