Iridium Satellite Communication Systems
Seamless Global Communications Without Hand-Offs or
No-Service Areas
Iridium
communication systems deliver seamless global
communications services without the inconvenience of
hand-offs or no-service areas. The are a number of
air transport manufacturers that offer full-service aeronautical communication
systems incorporating a single or dual channel Iridium
transceivers with separate ACARS DataLink services. Some
even have internal
GPS for fleet tracking.
L2 has integrated,
installed and/or STC approved Iridium products supplied
by
Rockwell Collins,
International Communications Group (ICG),
Avionica satLINK and Wingspeed
The ICG ICS-120A single-channel and the dual
channel ICS-220A communication systems are certified by
L2 for
cockpit communications using a telephone dialer adapter
or MCDU. The ICS-120A/ICS-220A includes a dedicated short
burst data (SBD) transceiver exclusively for ACARS
communications to provide unrestricted access for the
flight crew to air/ground Datalink services. The ICG
products are compliant with ARINC 741 protocol for
satellite-based ACARS messaging. The ICS-120A/ICS-220A is
also compatible with most CMU/DMU models, connecting via
the ARINC 429 data bus, thereby eliminating the need for
any additional interface devices.
The ICS-120A and ICS-220A systems provide a full range of
cabin telecommunications unit (CTU) features, including
intercom calling, call transfer, conferencing and
follow-on dialing. Other enhanced features include
credit card calling, digital echo suppression, store and
forward fax service and secure voice operation.
